Who can become a Cultural Boulevard Liaison?

Anyone who is passionate about their community! We’re looking for people with strong community ties, good communication skills, and a commitment to improving their community, especially the commercial corridor. Diversity in our committee is important to us. The committee will be made up of 7-9 members who apply and are selected to ensure diversity and cross section of the neighborhood.

Are Cultural Boulevard Liaisons paid for their work?

Yes, Liaisons receive a stipend comparable to the livable wage of $20 per hour as recognition for their valuable contributions and time. Payment schedule will be detailed upon joining the program.

What kind of training and support will Cultural Boulevard Liaisons receive?

Committee Members will be provided with training sessions covering community engagement techniques, urban planning, urban design, visual mapping, and effective communication strategies. Additionally, they’ll have ongoing support from a dedicated team within 4theVille, Sumner StudioLab, and the hired consulting firm.

How much time commitment is expected from a Liaison?

The time commitment can vary, but generally, Liaisons are expected to dedicate 6-8 hours per week over the course of the approximate year-long planning effort to program-related activities. Liaisons will help with program planning, decision making, and community engagement activities such as design charettes, pop-up demonstrations, and townhalls. It is anticipated that Liaison selection will occur by mid-November.

What makes a successful Liaison?

Successful Liaisons are those who are actively engaged in their community, able to effectively communicate with diverse groups, and passionate about making a positive impact in their community.

Can non-residents serve as a Liaison?

Yes, Liaisons are intended to be community members that demonstrate a deep commitment to improving their community, especially the Dr. Martin Luther King commercial corridor. Liaisons will be recruited from six neighborhoods bordering the MLK corridor: The Ville, Greater Ville, Kingsway East, Fountain Park, Lewis Place, and Vandeventer. We aspire for a diverse representation of community members, including non-resident community leaders such as business owners, organization leaders, church members, and alumni.
